Andre Holman

Andre Holman, a native St. Louisan, was born and raised in the Walnut Park neighborhood of North St. Louis. There he learned the importance of youth programs firsthand. As a child, he was a member of the Royal Knights youth sports organization where he enjoyed track and field, bowling and football. Although he never participated in Herbert Hoover sports programs, he benefited from his many summer days he spent at the club learning to swim.

Andre’s first love was football and he pursued that passion at Sumner High School. Known as one of the best running-backs to ever play at Sumner, the oldest black high school west of the Mississippi, Andre was recently honored as one of the top 50 football players in the school’s history.

Andre’s gridiron agility and speed also paved the way for his future success. Upon graduation from Charles Sumner High, Missouri State University offered him a football scholarship. However, Andre’s abilities were not limited to the football field. He was also developing skills in the performing arts and television production.

Although Andre graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications-Electronic Media in 1991, he still had an unquenched desire to share his love of football and to serve his community. Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club provided the perfect opportunity for him to express this desire. Consequently, he and his brother, Kevin Holman, decided to team up and become volunteer football coaches. They have served in that capacity for 20 years.

Andre’s wife, Felicia, and their four children, Daeja, DeAngelo, Dominique and Danielle, gave him the enduring support that enabled him to give as he has received. His ultimate goal has always been centered around helping the kids use the talent that they have been blessed with, to get a college education.

When this member of Messiah’s Tabernacle isn’t in church or on the football field, you can find him directing and producing programming at STL TV, St. Louis’ local government access channel. He started there as an intern in 1991 and now holds the position of Video Production Manager (Station Manager). As Manager, Andre is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the channel and providing video coverage of events hosted by city officials, agencies and community organizations. He and his staff work hard to produce quality television programs to promote the positive initiatives, new businesses and neighborhood development in the city. STL TV, who recently celebrated their 25th anniversary, has won an Emmy, several Black Journalist awards and national Telly Awards under Andre’s leadership.

For the past 17 years, you could also find Andre operating a television camera at some of St. Louis’ biggest sporting events, like the former St. Louis Rams, Cardinals and Blues home games. Some of his work has been televised on FOX Sports Net, ESPN and ABC News. On Friday nights, you can find Andre producing the High School Prep Zone games. Once again, he’s giving our young student-athletes a chance to shine under the lights.

At 52, Andre feels that everyone has a purpose in this life, and his is to make a difference in the lives of the youth here in the City of St. Louis. He understands that every child doesn’t start off life on a level playing field. He believes that today’s youth can achieve whatever they are willing to make sacrifices for. By coaching football, Andre always wanted to help increase those odds by teaching character-building lessons emphasizing trust, discipline, teamwork and winning and losing with class. As a mentor, one of the things that excites him more than winning his fifth, consecutive Super Bowls at Herbert Hoover, is seeing a kid reach their full potential despite the hurdles that have been put in their path. With the AH! TV Network he feels as though he can offer even more opportunities to professionals and college interns who want to learn the field of television production.
